Krylia (Eng. – “Wings”) is a huge annual rock festival held in Russia. It has been started in 2000 by the brewing company “Efes” and the famous Tushino airfield has been chosen as the festival place. For 7 years (2000-2007) Krylia was considered to be one of the biggest Russian rock festivals, mainly focused on the most successful Russian, Ukrainian and Byelorussian acts, such as ALISA, AGATHA CHRISTIE, CHICHERINA, ARIA, CHAIF and many others. There was also a place for some well-known foreign acts from time to time: for instance IGGY POP, SOULFLY, BLOODHOUND GANG and ATHENA were the Krylia’s special guests. The main festival’s conception was all about so-called “Russian rock”, but in a couple of years you could see more alternative, folk and even rap acts taking part.

In 2003 Krylia has suddenly become tragically famous because of a bombing attack. Here’s a quote from Wiki:

“The 2003 Tushino bombing took place July 5, 2003 in Tushino airfield, Russia.
According to the official version, 20-year-old Chechen woman Zulikhan Elikhadzhiyeva blew herself up outside a rock festival called “Krylia” (Wings) at the Tushino airfield near Moscow; her bomb did not detonate as expected. 15 minutes later, only a few meters from where Zulikhan blew herself up, 26-six-year-old Zinaida Aliyeva detonated her explosives. The attack killed 11 people on the spot, while at least 60 people were injured and four of them later died in hospital.”

Because of the last year’s terrorist attack Krylia 2004 was held at Luzhniki Stadium and the security level got extremely high. In 2005 the festival got back to the Tushino airfield and finally became a 2-day event. In 2007 it was the last year for Krylia because of the sponsor’s decision to get away from this kind of activities.

In 2013 – in 6 years – it was the big Krylia’s comeback at the new location in Maloyaroslavets, Kaluga Region.
