Nocturnal Culture Night is an annual dark music festival taking place in a small town of Deutzen, East Germany (near Leipzig). Usually it’s a 3-days event with three stages, so-called Medieval Market, about 30 bands in the line-up and up to 2.000 people in the audience. All the three stages serve the different purposes. The big stage is for the well-known acts, while not so popular bands play on the small one. There’s also a “cultural stage” for a supporting program like reading sessions, fashion shows, acoustic concerts, exhibitions, movie screenings, panel discussions etc. The Medieval Market offers some additional excitement like tasty food, beer, medieval musicians, jugglers and fire-eaters. For the NCN visitors the admission to the Market is free of charge. In 2010 a special area for children was established where the kids are entertained and looked after while their parents can go shopping for them.

Due to a special atmosphere NCN can be considered to be one of the most comfortable and sincere festival events in Germany. There’s no place for arrogance here and usually the musicians hang out there in the area between the gigs, chatting with the visitors etc. Everything is very easy, relaxed and – again – sincere.

A big part of the NCN line-up is EBM-culture and as a rule there are a lot of old and new EBM-bands in the program. Though it’s not all about EBM here and those who would like to see something different for a change will definitely see some gothic rock, various types of electronics and even goth metal.
